Participation of a French delegation to the 5th edition of « 21.39 Jeddah Arts »
A delegation of French art professionals, cultural institutions representatives (Institut du Monde Arabe, Palais de Tokyo, Paris Art Fair, Cité de la bande-dessinée d’Angoulême, Institut français de Beyrouth, Institut français d’Abu Dhabi) and independent curators were in Jeddah for the 5th edition of the contemporary art festival « 21.39 Jeddah Arts » from the 6th to the 9th of February. The delegation was led by Mr. Jack Lang, former minister of Culture and president of the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute).
To celebrate the opening of « 21.39 Jeddah Arts » and the coming of the French delegation to Jeddah, H.E. Mr. Mostafa Mihraje, the Consul General of France in Jeddah hosted a reception dinner at the French Residence on the 6th of February.
H.E. Mr. François Gouyette, Ambassador of France in Riyadh was present, as well as members of the Saudi Art Council, organizer of the festival. Many international art professionals were also invited.
This 5th edition of « 21.39 Jeddah Arts », “Refusing to be still” was curated by Mr. Vassilis Oikonomopoulos from the London Tate Modern. This edition gathers more than 30 Saudis and international artists. Mrs Eva Taulois, a French artist, invited to Jeddah on this occasion was one of them.
The delegation was able to visit Jeddah during « 21.39 Jeddah Arts » and to discover its vibrant art scene in the company of Mr. Karim Maatoug, the French cultural attaché in Jeddah. Many galleries, artists’ studios and exhibitions centers’ visits were organized through the week. The delegation also took part of visits of historic sites in Riyadh such as the renovated city of old Dirayah. The week ended up with the visit of the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dammam.
