A delegation of French art professionals, cultural institutions representatives (Ministère de la Culture, Institut du Monde Arabe, Cité internationale des Arts de Paris, Institut français d’Abu Dhabi) and an independent curator were in Jeddah for the 6th edition of the contemporary art festival « Jeddah Arts Al ’Obour», from the 4th to the 9th of February 2019. The delegation was led by Mr. Jack Lang, president of the Institut du Monde Arabe (Arab World Institute) and former minister of Culture.
Mr. Mostafa Mihraje, the Consul General of France in Jeddah hosted a dinner at the French Residence on February 8th to celebrate the closing of the 6th edition of the festival of contemporary art « Jeddah Arts Al ’Obour», and the coming of the French delegation to Jeddah, in presence of the members of the Saudi Art Council, organizer of the festival, but also many international art professionals and all the Jeddah art contributors, its artists, art professionals, gallerists, collectors and enthusiasts.
This 6th edition, named "AL-OBOUR" curated by Effat Abdullah Fadag brings together more than 30 Saudi and international artists. Al’Obour brings together several generations of artists, in an attempt to build bridges of artistic communication between all of them.
The delegation was able to visit Jeddah during « Jeddah Arts Al ’Obour», » and discover its vibrant art scene in the company of Mr. Karim Maatoug, the French cultural attaché in Jeddah, witnessing the strong French commitment to the Saudi cultural and artistic scene. Many galleries, artists’ studios and exhibitions centers’ visits were organized through the week.
Thus, at the beginning of the summer, the French curator Marianne Catzaras, in partnership with galleries in Jeddah, and the Service of Cooperation and Cultural Action at the Consulate General of France of Jeddah, are organizing an exhibition bringing artists together from the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
The closing dinner gathered over 200 guests, accompanied by the musical creation of laureate 2019 for the residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris, Saudi DJ, Muhanned Nassar.
