Commemoration of the Centenary of the Armistice (November 11, 2018).

The Consulate General of France in Jeddah commemorated the Centenary of the end of the First World War on November 11, 2018.

The commemoration was held in the presence of the Consul General of France in Jeddah, Mr. Mostafa MIHRAJE and the Attaché of Defense to the French Embassy in Riyadh, Admiral Xavier MONAQUE. The commemoration had three highlights:

1- A morning ceremony at the non-Muslim cemetery of Jeddah where the Consul General of France, the Consul General of the United Kingdom and The Consul General of Germany laid wreaths on the tomb of the French soldier, died for France, Jean-Baptiste LAPADU-HARGUES and that of the British soldier, John HOGAN.

2- A ceremony at the French International School of Jeddah, co-organized with students from the British, Italian, German, Senegalese and Guinean schools. After a procession of flags, short presentations on the First World War, punctuated with documentaries and videos on the Great War were presented by the students.

3- A closing evening at the Residence of France featuring a Franco-American photo exhibition on the First World War, the singing of national anthems (French, German, British, Italian, Senegalese and Guinean) by students from the International schools in Jeddah and, finally, the Ode la Joie in French, German, Italian and English.

Present at the ceremony were officials: Saudi Foreign Ministry, representatives of the Saudi Army, Consuls General, Consular Counselors, presidents of French associations, heads of foreign schools in Jeddah and many guests from French, Saudi and foreign communities.
